Plum Lake in Sayner is known as a premium water sport area in the summer. Ask any local angler, the year round fishing is amazing. It’s home to the Plum Ski-ters Water Ski Show Team - a thrilling (and free) waterski show during the summer. Sayner offers small-town charm of Wisconsin’s Northwoods and plenty of unique shopping! Gifts, home decor, stylish apparel, clothing boutiques, Quilt Shops, and a cool “general store” from America’s yesteryear.
With so many shared resort amenities, leaving the Woodlands Resort in Sayner/St. Germain could be hard. All guests can use the private pier & swim raft; playground swingset & tetherball, and the (always busy) fish cleaning house. Guests say we have one of the best beaches in northern Wisconsin!
What brings you to Sayner/St. Germain? The color gazing or hunting in the fall? Snowmobiling? (Launch this years winter adventure from our Woodlands Resort.) Skiing? If fishing is part of your cabin time in Vilas County then Plum Lake is a great choice since it’s teaming with Musky, Panfish, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Northern Pike and Walleye. Come see how Plum Lake got its name from the color the lake takes on at sunset. Golfing? Play an historic 9-hole golf course that first opened in 1912 that has panoramic views of Plum Lake and rolling hills.
Sayner cabins are lucky to be surrounded by miles of tranquil trails and crystal clear lakes. If you like to bike, then plan on pedaling the Heart of Vilas County Paved Bike Trail System which runs through the heart of Sayner-Star Lake! For Mountain bikers we recommend Razorback Ridges. You have to hike the scenic boardwalks on the Star Lake Nature Trail too.

My family has been coming to plum lake since the mid 70's and started off at Wickwood on Hanson road. This is our first time staying here at The Woodlands and absolutely fell in love. We stayed in the Maple cabin and almost has the feel of Sunset. The 4th generation of my family now got the opportunity to fish the lake that my grandparents started off on where my Dad and I learned how to fish and now my kids have the same place where it all started. I will be coming back here as soon as I can and for as long as I can. Great times had by all and looking forward for more to come. — Rober D., Oct. 2017
We've brought out kids up here for 18 years. Now they come up with their kids. It a fantastic experience for everyone. — Don W., Sept. 2016
My wife and our girls and now our Grandchildren have been coming here for almost 20 years!!!! Always a fantastic experience. — Ed S., July 2016
Best rentals in the Northwoods. Have been coming here for over 20 years. — Pablo S., Jan. 2014
Been here for over 20 years. So quiet peaceful and beautiful. — Bill S., Nov. 2015
We have spent one or more weeks at the Woodlands every summer for the past 30 years and counting. It’s a heavenly, relaxing spot on a beautiful lake, kid and pet friendly, fun for all ages. The cabins are spotlessly clean, well-maintained, well-supplied, and the owner responds promptly to any questions or concerns. Over the years, we’ve made many friends and created some of our happiest family memories there. Highly, highly recommend it! — Steve and Janet
The Woodlands is an incredibly special place! The beach, cabins and relaxed atmosphere makes for one of our favorite weeks every summer. The fact that many of the guests have been coming for decades tells you all you need to know about this gem on Plum Lake! — Joe and Katie
The Woodlands has been the site of my family’s annual vacation since 1962. The cottages are cozy, and there is plenty to do for all ages, from walking and biking to swimming, and kayaking. The lake is very clean, and the views are breathtaking. It is truly a magical time for the whole family. The owners of the cottages make sure that it continues to be one of the highlights of our year. Having gone to The Woodlands yearly for the last 55 years, I give it the highest recommendation as a vacation destination for anyone who would like to enjoy the scenic Northwoods of Wisconsin. — Delaine M.

Woodlands Resort has been in our family for three generations, since my father purchased the grounds in 1983. My parents stayed at the resort every summer and loved spending time with the seasonal guests. Many of our renters have been visiting Woodlands for 50 years or more and have become close family friends.
In 2017, ownership of the resort passed to us, and we consider ourselves blessed to continue the legacy and tradition of Woodlands. During our tenure, we have updated the cabins with new cabinets and appliances, remodeled bathrooms and new beachfront amenities. We are in the process of expanding our service from seasonal rentals to a year-round vacation destination so our guests can experience everything the Northwoods has to offer.
