So many folks have chosen the Little Barn Cabin for their anniversary celebrations - engagements and honeymoons have happened here, in this romantic, private spot. Kids love it, too, for the cozy feel and intimate closeness to nature. Our green-built cabin, built in 2011, offers fantastic views of a pond, restored prairie, and the West Fork of the Kickapoo River. The cozy, open-concept cabin features lots of windows toward the river, a wood stove, hydronic in-floor heat and a Bose sound dock. The full-sized, fully equipped kitchen has a dishwasher, and laundry facilities are right on site. The cabin accommodates 6 comfortably: one bedroom with queen size bed, a sleeping loft with a queen and double, and a double futon downstairs. See NatureNooksRetreat.com for more information on all three of the facilities at NNR.
Enjoy the awe-inspiring views from the deck with grill. The West Fork of the Kickapoo River is a favorite of fly fishers. Many folks never leave the property and have great luck on the mile of the Class I trout stream that runs through this property. Kayaks and tubes are available free of charge. Step outside the vacation cabin and enjoy hiking, birding, fishing, kayaking, skiing, cycling and more. This is a four-season rental. Paper, cleaning and personal products are environmentally-friendly for a green vacation experience.
Right at the property, you have access to a variety of recreational activities to enjoy nature. Plus, you are just a short drive from many area attractions. Amish artisans and shops are nearby along with restaurants and Viroqua's farmers market.
Come see why one local wildlife specialist and conservationist has said this is "perhaps the most bio-diverse single property I have ever walked." We have a newly constructed open wetland, meant for the critters, but really fun for the humans, too!

It's not often that you find yourself in a place where the mind is at rest, merely absorbing the surging pulse of life known as spring.... NNR is an elixir, which we were fortunate to drink in this weekend. Thanks for all your stewardship efforts. A&L, Monona, WI

You’d just like to get away for a couple of days with your sweetheart. Or you want to take your kids on a special vacation, in nature, by the water. Or you are taking off with a buddy or three to fish for a few days, or with your gal pals to catch up – and maybe catch fish, too. Is this you? Then one of the three facilities at Nature Nooks Retreat will be perfect for your get-away. Got a bigger group? Family reunion being planned? Researching for a retreat spot or business meeting? The space and kitchen in Kinship Place is a dream for serving a group, and the meeting space is a place to help GOOD things happen.
Here at Nature Nooks Retreat, we have lovely well-appointed cabins – The Lodge, Little Barn Cabin, Kinship Place - all with full kitchens, AC, woodstoves, the works. You will see photos and video of this 87 acres of habitat – from each deck, and from the mowed trails, you’ll be immersed in restored prairie, pollinator habitat, improved streambanks of the Class I trout stream, preserved and constructed wetlands. Nature calls!
Tom and Pam live on the property, and are available to answer questions, or even go on a walk-about or a float with you. We love to tell the story of this property, from the 12,000 years of human habitation, right to the present, as we continue to improve the stream banks, establish and maintain prairie restoration, and create wetlands. OUR CHARTER is to protect and enhance biodiversity and carrying capacity, and to create a means of sharing an appreciation for and a sense of belonging to Nature.
