History:
This Cabin has quite the History in Lake Tomahawk. Fred Sowatzka's dad owned the General Store in Town and his dad was also the Superintendent for the Railroad that went directly through Lake Tomahawk. Lots of History behind the railroad, lots of stories there, which my dad would tell us kids.
Fred & Betty Sowatzka married in the 40's. They first lived in the old town jail that existed on their property. The old jail was torn down after Fred & Betty built the log cabin.
Betty would cruse the woods picking up trees needed for the construction. Fred would cut them down and then drag them back using horses so they could then debark them by hand. This took two seasons to complete the log preparation. From there they built the cabin. The cabin was originally 20'x30' with a loft for the kids, and one small bedroom.
Fred & Betty enjoyed living in the cabin for many wonderful years with their children. They had a total of 8 children. Tight quarters as you can imagine, but they loved it.
Fred & Betty were also fondly named Muskie Fred and Bluegill Betty. This is because they were both avid hunters and fishermen and would actively compete against each other. (Lots of funny stories, trust me on that one) The love of this cabin and the area has been passed over to their children and grandchildren to this day, 4 generations later. Now Fred & Betty's Great Granddaughter gets to enjoy the coziness of this beautiful hand-built cabin.
Unique features: Sleeping loft with spiral staircase. Outside firepit grill with deck. Water garden.
Spring/Summer - hiking, trails, bike riding, lake swimming, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, local restaurants with live music and entertainment, snowshoe baseball on Monday nights.
Winter - ice fishing, ice skating, snow mobiles (weather permitting).
Deer Hunting during hunting season.

Gary Sowatzka is now the owner of the cabin his parents built. He maintains the cabins' original structure and beauty.
Gary was born and raised in Wisconsin. In 2000, he hand-built his own timber frame home next to his parents' cabin.
